Slicing Mustard
Since the election campaign was announced I have been trying to get a sense of the tone each candidate for Prime Minister is using.
I watched Howards election announcement, the 60 minutes interviews and Rudd this morning on Sunrise.
My general impression so far is that Howard is very very keen on dishing out criticism for his opposition, while proclaiming to have magnificent plans for the future. Meanwhile Rudd is more than happy to just talk about the future.
I guess the Libs being in a defensive position are having to play the fear and smear campaign as much as possible, whilst Rudd does not seem keen to play it.
On one level it is a shame, on another level I think it will help Rudd’s votes crystallise as he is seen as a politician with vision rather than a whinging attitude. I get the impression Howard still cant figure out why people wouldnt want to vote for him.
Rudd so far has handled himself well, but I am concerned that he is repeating himself too much in interviews, and he may end up suffering from Latham syndrome whereby repeating the same catchphrase over and over annoyed the shit out of voters.
